If you’ve ever exhibited at a trade show, you’ll know how tough it is to stand out. You’re surrounded by hundreds of other businesses, all vying for peoples’ attention. You’ve spent money on banners, giveaways, maybe even coffee and snacks – and yet people still stroll past without giving you a second glance.
In this post, I’ll show you how to attract visitors to your exhibition stand by working with a professional trade show magician.
1. Stop People in Their Tracks
Exhibitions are busy. Attendees are bombarded with freebies, pitches and people generally trying to sell them stuff.
What they’re not expecting is to see a magician performing amazing tricks right on the exhibition floor. When I’m working as a magician on a client’s exhibition stand, my standard approach is simply “Do you want to see some magic?” This is called a “pattern interrupt” – it’s an unexpected question that jolts people out of their default behaviour and makes them stop and pay attention.
Once they’ve stopped and enjoyed some magic, it creates a golden opportunity to talk to them about your business and find out if they’re a potential prospect.
2. Build a Crowd to create Social Proof
A busy stand attracts more attention. If people see a crowd gathering, they want to know what the fuss is about. A good trade show magician knows how to attract visitors to your exhibition stand and create that buzz. Once they’ve been entertained, your team can engage, scan badges, qualify leads, and start conversations.
Magic is a powerful way to utilise social proof and make people curious about what you offer.

3. Deliver Your Message in a Memorable Way
A good exhibition magician doesn’t just perform tricks — they weave your brand or product messages into the performance.
Whether it’s a product reveal, a key sales message, or a call to action, magic can deliver it in a way that people actually remember.
One of my favourite ways to do this is by using branded playing cards, and each person who stops takes one away after they’ve seen some magic. Unlike other giveaways like branded pens or mugs, this comes with a story they’ll tell their colleagues later: “You won’t believe what happened at that stand!”
In fact, I find people often bring their colleagues back to the stand to see some magic for themselves!
4. Create Content Worth Sharing
In our social media driven world, experiences that look good on camera are marketing gold. Magic is inherently shareable – people love posting videos of amazing tricks to their social feeds. This extends your marketing investment beyond your exhibition stand.
You can also create content yourself to share after the event on your social networks and across LinkedIn, extending your brand message to people who weren’t able to attend the event.
5. Leave a Lasting Impression
Let’s be honest: most exhibition experiences blur into one. But people remember how you made them feel. Magic is interactive, personal, and fun. It brings smiles, gasps, and genuine moments of delight. Visitors to your exhibition stand will associate those positive feelings with your brand and remember your long after the event.
