Frequently Asked Questions
(and no, I won't tell you how I do it)
How much does it cost to hire you?
The quick answer is, it depends – my fee will vary depending on things like the type of event, when and where it is, and how long you want me for. I wrote a blog article about how much it costs to hire a magician a little while ago – or you can contact me directly for a quote. I’m not cheap, but I guarantee you’ll get a great show!
Do you perform virtual magic shows?
Yes! I started performing as “Zoom magician” back in April 2020 and have now performed for 1000s of people all around the world.
Do you do kid’s parties?
I’m afraid I don’t – children’s entertainment is a specialist area which requires an act that’s specifically aimed at kids.
Most of the magic that I perform is geared towards an adult audience. That said, if you’re looking to hire me for an event where there will be a few kids present, I’ll be able to entertain them with a few things along with the adults.
If you’re specifically looking for a kids show though, I can recommend some specialist children’s entertainers.
Are you insured?
Absolutely. I’m a member of Equity, which includes Public Liability Insurance of up to £10 million.
Are you a member of the Magic Circle?
Yes! occasionally, I perform at public events there too – keep an eye out for me if you ever pop along. You can also find my details on the Magic Circle website.
Can you do a show in Scotland/Birmingham/ Barbados/Australia?
I’m based in London, which means the majority of the time I perform magic at events in London and the surrounding counties. If you want me to travel further afield, I’m happy to subject to availability – my fee will reflect the additional travel time and cost. Contact me for a quote!
How long will you perform for?
That depends on the kind of event, and the number of guests. As a guideline I can entertain approximately 100 people over 2 hours doing walk-around close-up magic (if you have many more guests than this, you may want to consider two or more magicians – I can recommend others). If it’s a small gathering, a private informal show might be more appropriate over 30-60 minutes. Or if the venue has the facilities, a full-on cabaret show. Contact me and I’ll be happy to discuss your individual requirements.
What tricks will you do?
Why spoil the surprise? I do a variety of different types of magic, and I promise you’ll be amazed, entertained and generally have a great time. You can get a feel for the kind of thing I do by taking a look at my magic videos.
Do you know you look just like Max Branning from Eastenders?
Yes. Next!
Who’s your favourite magician?
I get asked this quite a lot – there are quote a few, so I started to write about a few of them in the favourite magicians section of my blog.
Enough with the Q&A, how can I book you to perform magic at my event?
Fill in the form on my contact page, or send me an email at darren@darrendelaney.co.uk. I’ll usually get back to you the same day. Or, pick up the phone and give me a call – 07930 379 760.
How do you do that!?!?
As a member of the Magic Circle, I’m sworn to secrecy. If I told you, I’d have to kill you afterwards. Sorry.
