Wow, what a start to 2020! It’s been a busy January for me, with plenty planned for the year ahead. Here’s a little look back over the past month, plus some news on what’s still to come.
Happy New Year from Kuwait

I welcomed in the New Year a few hours ahead of the UK from The Middle East. The Four Seasons Kuwait had booked me to perform as part of their “circus” themed New Year celebrations (Hence the outfit in the top image on this page – that’s not my usual performing wear!)
It was a brilliant evening, and especially enjoyable to work with a team of other talented performers. Plus, we got to relax a little and enjoy the hotel’s luxurious facilities for a day either side. Quite a treat!
I’m very fortunate to get to travel occasionally doing what I love. If you have an international event planned and you’re interested to hire a magician, do get in touch!
Parties and Corporate Events

January’s often a quiet month for events, and while I had some welome respite after a very busy Christmas season, there were still some great events this month. A couple of highlights were a client event for BriteVox, and hosting the awards at the CEM in Mobile Conference.
Britevox’s event saw another opportunity to work as a team – I arranged a group of magicians to provide close-up entertainment over reception drinks, followed by an after-dinner show which I hosted. It was a really fun event and a lovely group to entertain.
“Epic feedback from our team. You guys were outstanding!” – Michael Scully, co-founder, BriteVox
Last week, I hosted the “CEM in Telecoms” awards in London, with an added touch of magic of course! Here’s a short clip – after I’d just played a game of “noughts and crosses” with the audience, there was a special surprise for the sponsor Huawei.
Public Shows

This month, I made appearances at “Now That’s Magic” in Camden and “The Magician’s Showcase” in Finchley Road, both really fun shows to perform in.
If you’d like to catch me in action, I’ve updated the public shows page on this site with details of upcoming events.
I may be biased, but I’d particularly recommend “The Illusioner Presents” on 12th March, where you’ll be able to enjoy close-up magic and a stage show from me and a team of magicians at Belair House in West Dulwich. It really is a great night out in a lovely venue. Hope to see you there!
The Magic Circle Close-up Magician of The Year

Finally, I made the final for The Magic Circle’s “Close-up Magician of The Year” competition for the third year. Overall I was pleased with my performance, but I wasn’t quite good enough against the incredibly strong line-up. Maybe next year!
Competitions are both great fun and nerve-wracking to perform in. I love the discipline of working on and refining a tight act to fit a short time-frame. The acts have to be between 6 and 8 minutes long and performed to a live audience (it’s also live-streamed to members around the world).
A big congratulations to the winner Ed Hilsum, who made history by becoming the first person to win all 3 titles of “Stage Magician of The Year”, “Children’s Entertainer of the Year” and “Close-up Magician of the year”.
That’s all for this month’s round-up. Don’t forget that if you’re looking for a magician for hire for an upcoming event, do get in touch for a chat!
