Last week, I had the pleasure of working with Obrizum on their stand at Learning Technologies 2025 as an exhibition magician.
What’s an exhibition magician, I hear you ask?
If you’re not familiar with Trade fairs and expos, it’s a large event where companies from a particular industry showcase their products and services to potential suppliers. There are lots of stands of varying sizes vying for buyers’ attention.
There are exhibitions for every industry you could imagine – I’ve been hired for events in industries as diverse as HR, marketing, office removals, cybersecurity, recruitment, IT support and even cabling (exciting I know).
Companies often use promotions and other tactics to tempt people to come to talk to them. That’s where I come in!

When I’m working as a trade show magician, I stop passers-by to show them a magic trick (this is much easier than “hey, can I try to sell you something?”) Once they’re engaged with my magic, I find out if they’re a potential prospect for the company I’m working for and introduce them to the sales team.

Often, I’ll try to incorporate the company’s products or brand into my magic. At this event, I had some Obrizum branded playing cards, and each person that stopped to enjoy my performance got to take one away.

The event was a huge success, and Obrizum’s marketing manager left me a lovely review:
Darren was an incredible addition to our exhibitor showcase at Learning Technologies last week. He made our lives so much easier and effortlessly drew people into our stand, allowing us to get on with our jobs, rather than having to worry about catching people’s attention (which it looked like other exhibitors were struggling with!) – Lottie Jenkins
Learning Technologies was at Excel, a huge exhibition centre near the City of London. I’m back there in June for “Liftex International” so come and say hi if you’re attending. And if you’d like to hire a magician for an event, get in touch, I’d love to hear from you!
