One of the great things about my job is that I get to visit so many brilliant venues.
Despite living and working at events in London for over a decade, I’d never been up The Gherkin until this week. On Wednesday, I was booked to perform magic at a corporate event hosted by Emburse, a Travel and Expenses company.
It was a dinner event for 40 people held at Searcy’s, which covers the top 3 floors of the iconic London building.

The space has stunning 360 degree views across the city and beyond. It really is quite spectacular.
After passing through security I headed to the lift, which takes you up the 38th floor so quickly that your ears pop!
After a few business presentations by the company and their speakers, dinner was served, and I circulated around the tables between courses, performing close-up magic for each one.
I’d even designed a magic trick around travel expenses to fit with the theme of the event It was a little tongue in cheek, but the client seemed to love it.

I’ll be back again at The Gherkin in a couple of weeks for a different event. This time it will be in the afternoon so I’m looking forward to seeing the view in daylight!
If you’re arranging a corporate event, I’ve written a few articles about event venues in London that you might find useful. With multiple event spaces for groups from 18 to 260 people, The Gherkin’s definitely a strong choice. And of course, if you want to hire a magician to make the event extra memorable, do get in touch!
